Five months after opening its doors in October 2018, Kolitch Romano is already expanding.  Amber Sun has joined the firm as a new partner. Amber joins founding partners Dave Bourgeau, Shawn Kolitch, and Thomas (T.J.) Romano.

Amber has 15 years of experience securing, protecting, and defending patents and trademarks across industries including automotive, semiconductor, mechanical, and software. She previously worked in Shanghai for four years as Head IP counsel at a joint-venture automotive company. She is a member of the Oregon State Bar and a registered Patent Attorney with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). Amber also is the President-elect of the Oregon Patent Law Association for 2019.

“I wanted to join a firm that shares my values in hard work and excellence, as well as having a true commitment to diversity and teamwork,” Amber explains. “I’m honored to join Kolitch Romano’s team as a partner. The team here prioritizes customer service and they also are genuinely caring people who respect and support each other.”

As a native Chinese speaker, Amber will expand Kolitch Romano’s intellectual property expertise in China. She will be attending industry events in Asia, including meetings for the Asian Patent Attorneys Association. Amber brings several significant clients with her to Kolitch Romano.

“Amber was one of the most outstanding students I’ve had in my IP classes,” says John McCormack, who was Amber’s patent law professor at the University of Oregon School of Law and is also of-counsel at Kolitch Romano. “I’ve been watching her career with interest; it’s always gratifying as a professor to see your students succeed and it’s especially rewarding to have her join the Kolitch Romano team as a partner in the early days of the firm.”

While in law school, Amber received the Diversity Excellence Scholarship from University of Oregon and the prestigious Sidney B. Williams, Jr. Scholarship from the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA).

“We’re very fortunate to have Amber Sun join Kolitch Romano as our newest partner,” says Dave Bourgeau, partner at Kolitch Romano. “As Kolitch Romano grows, we continue to develop strategic expertise in emerging and established Asian markets, including China. Amber’s unique skillset and experience will add an important perspective to our leadership team and can only be a huge benefit to our clients.”
